To me, I was of age and marriage was the next natural thing to do. So, I essentially checked a box without knowing what it actually entailed. I didn’t draw a boundary of protection around the marriage which allowed third parties to intrude in ways that was not healthy.

Friendship is the heartbeat of every true relationship. Friendship is the seed of the relationship. It is that entity that must be watered and nurtured for the relationship to bear good fruits. The moment the friendship is depleted the relationship looses its zest and charm.

Apostle Paul reminds us, "Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others." (Phil. 2:3-4)The ideal, and Biblical marriage (as stated by Paul to the Philippians), comes when each spouse is constantly and genuinely concerned about the other in service and sacrifice.

As a diehard church girl, the thought of not going to church or leaving church early was inconceivable. But to stay home to watch English premier league, was tantamount to blasphemy. Oh my blood was boiling!

None of my miscarriages won me any sympathies from my husband. It was one misunderstanding after another. I basically didn’t have a voice on any issue. At times I came across as repulsive to him.

Without Christ, we cannot be married or stay happily married. Certainly, there are many non-Christians who are happily married just by applying God's principles. Those marriage appear great on the surface but are lacking in terms of spiritual and eternal wholeness.

A man's love for his wife is supposed to be a sample of Christ's love for His church. Christ love is rich and gentle and that will be the tone in your marriage.
